Description:
For this project, we were asked to solve the mystery of who killed Carlton Comet. We used the evidence from the crime scene such as gel electrophoresis and ink chromatography. Then, we used the results to uncover which of the 5 suspects murdered Carlton Comet. The five suspects were Nancy Normal, Glen Glee, Fred Flimmer, Theresa Terra, and Sam Sophomore. Our lab results showed us that Nancy Normal committed the murder.
Concepts:
Ink chromatography: a method of separating out materials from a mixture
Genetic disease: a genetic problem caused by one or more abnormalities in the genome
Allele: a form of a gene that arise by mutation
Heterozygous: a pair of genes where one is dominant and one is recessive
Homzygous: When someone has two of the same allele
Phenotype: someones' characteristics resulting from the interaction of its genotype with the environment
Dominant: A trait that only requires one allele
Recessive: A trait that requires both alleles to be its kind to be expressed
Co-dominant: When both traits of a heterozygous allele pair are expressed
Incomplete dominance: A heterozygous condition where both alleles at a gene are partially expressed
Pedigree: a record of the decent of an organism
Karyotype: the number of chromosomes in the cell nuclei of an organism
