Intro
During this project, we were asked to make a board game and involve chemical reactions. This required some creative thinking and ended up lasting over a month in total. First, we had to decide what theme our board should be. We eventually decided on the idea of candy. Next, we had to decide how to involve chemical reactions. We decided to use a single displacement reaction with aluminum and copper nitrate and a double displacement reaction with sodium acetate and iron chloride.
Land of Candy
Our game starts with 4 players and each choses a game piece. Then, players take turns picking cards which urge players to move around the board and start the chemical reactions. Once the reactions occur and the game comes to an end, the final reaction is a baking soda and vinegar reaction. The baking soda was in the tube and the vinegar was in the balloon. The card tells the player to empty the baking soda into the vinegar. The baking soda reacts to the vinegar and it forms a gas which inflates the balloon and imitates a lollipop.
Land of Candy Instructions
Candy Land is a fun way to witness and learn about chemicals in abrand new way. This game features multiple chemical reactions along with hiddentreats along the way!Instructions:1.Choose your favorite piece of candy as your game piece. Make sure they’reall different!2.Whoever chose the Twix starts, and the rotation is counterclockwise fromthere.3.Whoever’s turn it is must take the top card from the pile labeled “unusedcard”.4.Read what the car says out loud, and follow the instructions telling youwhere to move your game piece.
Be Careful!
Some cards have specialinstructions on the backside that should also be followed and read aloud.5.Once the card’s instructions are completed, place the already drawn cards inthe pile labeled “Used Cards”
FACE DOWN.
Then, the next player maystart their turn.6.When someone reaches the finish line, follow the instructions written on thefinish card to inflate the lollipop

Single Displacement Reaction: a type of chemical reaction where an element reacts with a compound and takes the place of another element in that compound
Double Displacement Reaction: a type of chemical reaction where two compounds react, and the positive ions (cation) and the negative ions (anion) of the two reactants switch places, forming two new compounds or products
Reactivity Series: a series of metals, in order of reactivity from highest to lowest. It is used to determine the products of single displacement reactions

Reflection
I learned a lot throughout this project. What mostly stood out to me was how much skill I gained at handling all the chemicals. By the end of the project I felt very comfortable with the chemicals. The end of the project is where my group excelled because we all became more comfortable with everything. On game night, the game was a success and everyone had fun playing it. But, along with those peaks, we had some lows as well. One major mistake came with the construction of our board. The lollipop wasn't water proof so we had some minor leaks. Besides that small hiccup, I learned a lot and had a great time with this project.
