Build A Band
Summary:
In this project, everyone was asked to build an instrument and present a song to the class with your group. Each instrument had to be fully explained and how it worked, including wave lengths and other scientific terms. Our group made a flute, drums, chimes, and a guitar for our instruments. Each of these instruments was complicated to make but ended up working correctly. My group contributed to helping each other with their instruments. We also all contributed to writing lyrics to a song, which was incompleted do to lack of time. Everyone in our group had met all the requirements and did a good job at explaining. I had made the the drums, Collin made the chimes, Tyler made a guitar, and Jovais made the flute. We all did a good job making the instruments considering the materials that were provided. The chimes were made using different lengths of metal piping. The different lengths caused different wave lengths to be produced, thus causing a higher/lower pitched sound. We put the chimes on strings in order to reduce the resistance. The guitar was made out of three strings of different widths. The thinner string created a higher pitched sound, while the thicker one created a lower pitched sound. We put the strings on a piece of wood with a empty plastic bottle under them. We also carved a wooden pick to use for the guitar. The flute was made with a small piece of PVC pipe. We created notes by finding where the holes needed to be drilled in order to make the certain notes. By vibrating your lips while blowing into the PVC, different wave lengths can be created.
